Hi, welcome to the Daily Spin. I’m Steve and I’ve been shooting videos all day and you are Steve and you’ve been shooting videos all day.
And we’re getting to the end but we’ve got a really cool skate that’s actually quite exciting. This is brand new from Rollerblade, isn’t it?
It is. The new Maxxum Series.
Yep, Maxxum. I’ve got the 100 and you’ve got the 90 and we’ll talk about the differences in a minute but let’s talk about what’s similar in both these. So, tell me about the skate. This is kind of like a crossover between 2 different types of skates.
Yeah, it’s a molded skate, Steve. It’s going to give you a lot of support so it’s a molded skate so a lot of our molded skates are urban skates. But the Maxxum series has a little more of a performance cuff to it and all so this is going to be a skate that’s going to be able to skate around in an urban environment but also put some speed down, hit the trail. And do molded boots give more support than soft?
They do. They transfer energy better than any other kind of kind of skate.
That’s kind of how Rollerblades were first made was with molded boots.
Absolutely. molded boots transfer energy well. Except there’s a lot more venting than the old ones, I know, because they tended to get hot this one’s got a lot of holes in it to… They did.
All right so anyways, save me here. Let’s talk about the wheels and bearings and…
Well, actually let’s talk about the boot a little more and the closure her.
All right, let’s talk about the boot. So, you’ll notice on this skate, a really important feature is the 45 degree buckle here. It goes right across the center of this skate and this ratchet buckle is really going to keep you down into the heel pocket of the skate. Really, really important. There’s also…
There’s actually a metal buckle too, I notice.
Yep, there’s a ratchet buckle up top as well. The closure there. And then you have a lace system. So, that’s where the skates are the same. From there, I’m holding the 90mm version. This is 4 90mm Hydrogen wheels so this is going to be a really, really fast skate. 90mm wheels are a good size. They’re going to be fast. The Hydrogen brand wheels are our new wheels are the best wheels we can make.
So, that’s the frame and bearings and wheels that you would find typically on a softboot performance skate but you got the plastic, super-strong sort of urban style boot on the upper part. That’s why I say it’s kind of a cross between 2, right? Yeah, it’s a great performance product like if you were to skate up hills, etc., you can’t do better than a molded skate.
Okay, so I’m going to have you talk about this one so, we’re working on a green screen, so this is a green skate so it’s going to disappear a little bit while I pass it over to you. You’re going to hold it in front of you so it doesn’t disappear. So, what’s the difference?
So, on this model here now, we have 100mm wheels on the RB 100. And it’s, like I said, the Hydrogen wheels are our highest quality wheels. Poured in the USA, really high rebound, fast wheels.
You guys are really excited about these wheels. They’re brand new.
Really makes a big difference in skating speed. You’ll notice on this as well, on this frame, there’s a 90mm wheel right here under the foot on the second wheel position. We’ve tried over the past years to, what we call, a Lo-Balance frame, trying to get the skate boot as low as possible with the biggest possible wheel that you can skate on. In this case here, we put a 90mm wheel in this position so that we can lower the boot down. Right because that’s the lowest point of the boot so it gets in the way of the wheel.
That’s the point, right under the ball of your foot. So, by putting a 90 there, we can get the skate lower and it’s still going to give you a 100mm feel and experience but it’s going to give you a lower stance. So, am I correct then, that that 100 is really no higher off the ground than this 90?
It’s pretty close, yeah. About the same. This is going to have a longer frame, obviously, with the 100mm wheels but very fast skate. So, we missed the shock absorber in the wheel.
Yep, it’s got a shock absorber under the heel to absorb that…
You can actually kind of see it with this little call-out here. Little bit of neoprene kind of sticks out the side.
Yep, and you’ll notice, Steve, your model has the brake on the skate. This comes with a brake as well inside the box.
So, these are really cool. This might have to be the skate that I…
I think that’s your skate.
You think so? You don’t think I can sport the green one?
No. Looks good on you though. Green’s good. All right so we’re getting a little slap happy, we’ve been doing videos all day but thanks for tolerating us for this 4 minute video and thanks for joining us on the Daily Spin.
