How to Avoid In-Line Skating Accidents | Rollerblading


Hi, I’m Tim Phang. I’m 23 years old. I’ve been skating for about 12 years. I’m from Arlington, Virginia which is right
outside of Washington, D.C. I’m now sponsored by Universal Skate Design,
and I’m going to be talking to you about rollerblading. First and foremost, it’s always important
to wear the correct safety protection. So, always wear a helmet, knee pads and elbow
pads if you’re just learning. I also tend to wear shin gaurds because when
you’re aggressive skating and doing tricks, a lot of times you’ll fall down and bang you’re
shins up pretty bad. So shin gaurds go a long way in protecting
those. It’s also really important that you get yourself
a really good pair of skates. You don’t want to be trying to do tricks on
skates that aren’t built for it. If you don’t have the right protection on
your ankles than you risk breaking your ankles. You should always skate within your skill
level. I’ve seen way too many people get hurt because
they were trying something that was above their skill level and that they are not ready
for. Be patient, work your way up with tricks. You want to start with some easy ones. Start with the basics of course, learning
to skate comfortably, learning to skate backwards, stop and start, control your speed. Then when you feel like you’re ready to start
learning tricks, come to some place thats like a skate park, someplace thats built for
it, so that you’re not throwing yourself down an obstacle that you aren’t ready for. Skate parks are generally a good place to
learn. There’s a lot of, there’s usually sort of
a beginners section, then there’s intermediate sections. There’s small obstacles and big obstacles
so you should always develop on the small obstacles, learn a few basic tricks. Know your limits, always wear the correct
saftey gear that’ll protect you from injuries.
