How to Balance on In-Line Skates | Rollerblading


Hi, I’m Tim Phang. I’m 23 years old. I’ve been skating for about 12 years. I’m from Arlington, Virginia which is right
outside of Washington, D.C. I’m now sponsored by Universal Skate Design,
and I’m going to be talking to you about rollerblading. Balance is the most basic part of rollerblading. When you start skating it’s going to feel
a little bit weird to have wheels beneath your feet. A lot of people think that because inline
skates have all the wheels in line that balance is going to be difficult but it’s really not
and it just takes a little bit of practice. There are essentially three different types
of balance in skating. There is balance when you are rolling around. There’s balance when you’re in a skate park
and you’re on ramps and there is balance when you’re on grinds. Each is a little bit different and it’s just
going to require a little bit of practice and you have to remember that balance changes
depending on what your doing during those activities so different grinds require different
forms of balance. If your on one foot versus two feet, if your
grinding on different parts of your skates, it’s all going to require different balance. If your skating in a skate park, different
levels of steepness, different curvature of the ramps is all going to require different
balance. Eventually when you get used to skating, your
balance will get better and you’ll get used to skating in a lot of different ways and
eventually it’ll just become second nature. When you’re skating, to keep your balance,
you want to make sure that you keep your knees bent and use your arms to help steady yourself. Also the best way to gain balance when skating
is to just skate a lot. The more time you spend on your skates, the
more comfortable you’ll get and the better your balance will be.

is skating on aggressive inline skates the same as skating on roller hockey skates? or do i need to find my balance all over again on the aggressive inline skates?

Hey Guys,
Try Rink skating first, then try this. ITS ALOT HARDER. it took me 2 months just to be comfortable jumping over a rail, much less jumping ON one.

3 types of balance?! lol – I dont think so. What about balance when you're stodd still mate? – thats the 4th and most important one
